Carousel of Care conference for family caregivers set

Hawaii Community Caregiver Network’s 2016 Carousel of Care, a conference for family caregivers, will be from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9 at Sheraton Kona Resort &Spa at Keauhou Bay.

Poet and author Frances H. Kakugawa, who cared for her mother who had Alzheimer’s disease, is the keynote speaker.

Following her presentation entitled Caregiving, A Gift, A Joy, A Legacy, Kakugawa will moderate a breakout session Continuing Caregiving Conversations with Frances – What is Your Story? Other breakout sessions include: Managing Complex Change, Five Wishes at the End of Life, Avoiding Caregiver Burnout, Legal Issues for Caregivers and Understanding the Anatomy and Physiology of Dementia.

The event includes continental breakfast, a resource fair and lunch. The afternoon will offer self-care options such as art therapy, tapping and yoga.

Degree preparation workshop planned at Palamanui

The University Center, West Hawaii will host a degree preparation workshop from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Koali Building, Room 102 at Hawaii Community College – Palamanui.

Students will learn what degrees are offered in West Hawaii, the necessary steps to move forward, key deadlines, methods of program delivery and what it takes to be a successful distance learning student.
